Mental Health Treatment Center

Mental Health Treatment Center

There are many forms of mental health help that someone can seek, including care at an inpatient mental health treatment center. These are an excellent choice for anyone living with difficulties with their mental health. What inpatient care refers to is the patient getting admitted into a center dedicated to care and treatment for various mental illnesses. For some people, dealing with mental health and alcohol or drug addiction will go hand-in-hand.

The Purpose of Mental Health Inpatient Care

Today, the purpose of inpatient mental health treatment is very different than it was many years ago. Rather than admittance into a psychiatric facility, patients have the ability to enter into a safe, comfortable environment to seek care for mental health concerns, drug addiction, and trauma. These newer facilities exist to help others work on mental health in a controlled setting.

Who Should Seek Inpatient Mental Health Center Care?

These facilities work to help anyone that needs stabilization. Many disorders, including depression, drug/alcohol co-occurring disorders, and more, could flare up time and again. Inpatient hospitalization might be best for the participant to get the care and support they need.

Inpatient care is often part of the spectrum today for handling mental health conditions. When other forms of mental health therapy do not seem to generate improvement, inpatient care is best for someone who is:

  • Dangerous to themselves or suicidal
  • Dangerous to others, showing aggression or threats
  • Needing stabilization because thoughts, behaviors, or feelings are out of control
  • Needing medication or changes past anything doctor or therapy visits may achieve
  • Using alcohol or substances
  • Going through increased mental health issues even after outpatient care
  • Having psychosis, including delusions or hallucinations
  • Harming themselves via neglect, including loss of self-care, not eating, etc.

Why is Inpatient Mental Health Treatment Helpful?

Inpatient care facilities are available to help people stabilize and work on wellness to create success and function independently. This may involve a need for many services that cut down on suffering while optimizing mental wellness:

  • Group and individual therapy
  • Expressive therapies (music, writing/journaling, art, etc.)
  • Recreation
  • Occupational therapy, and more

When Should I Seek Help?

It is important that you look at your symptoms and whether or not they are beginning to interfere with daily life. Do you have any of these symptoms lasting for about two weeks?

  • Feeling slightly down
  • Feeling down yet still able to perform schoolwork, your job, or household tasks
  • Having trouble sleeping
  • Feeling down yet able to care for yourself and others?

If you have severe symptoms that last longer than two weeks, you should seek professional help.
